TD05 Big 16G vs VF34: Which hits full boost faster on a 2.0l EJ20 engine with tuning?
Hi, I was wondering which turbocharger is able to hit full boost first on a 2.0l EJ20 Subaru Engine? Bear in mind all necessary fuel management and a custom tune is achieved. I have heard conflicting reports that the VF34 due to its ball bearing design can hit earlier, whilst some other people say the 7cm inlet of the TD05 enable it to spool faster. Some people on Nasioc state that VF34 can hit full boost as early as approximately 3,500rpm. Which is true? Also, my Subaru Forester has a 4EAT automatic transmission, so please take that into account as well. Please don't talk about which turbo has larger high-end, etc, I just wanna know which spools faster given similar other engine modifications.
Theres the deadbolt TD05 G16 and Super G16. From what I understand the G16 spools faster. But has a shorter runout. It's ideal shrot and twisty. This is why I put one in my rally car. The VF34 is by far a better turbo but you get more value for you buck with a modified G16. The VF34 is hard to come by these days and they are getting phased out. The G16 is rebuildable while the VF34 is not. If you spend $1,300 on a turbo, you should make sure you can fix it after you brake it. I've only run the G16 and not the VF34.
