I am assuming that you're a teenager with learner's permit and all, so get a Golf. Even if you get the two door golf, you'll still have plenty of room for friends and driving around town, just like in the Jetta. When you go to college you'll be able to fit everything in one load (plus a passenger). I'm a hatchback fan because you can fit so much in them, even odd shaped items. With a Jetta (or trunk) it's more difficult because the object might be too high for the trunk lid to close but too wide to fit in the backseat (aka TV in a box) and the trunk to backseat pass-through is just a pain (which I don't know if that Jetta even has a pass-through or how large it is).

Hatchbacks are also a hella lot of cuter and a blast to drive (I encourage you to learn how to drive a stick).

Plus I'm pretty sure the golf gets better gas mileage than the jetta - definitely a factor for the poor teenager/college student budget!
