What in the world is wrong with my car?
I drive a '96 Civic with a JDM engine and an automatic transmission. In the past few weeks, whenever i go uphill or against the wind on the highway, I would lose power and slow down, no matter how much I press on the gas pedal. In fact, it would down gear, make a hell of a lot of noise, and stay in that gear, even on level road afterwards. My gain in speed would be negligible.
I've cleaned my cold air filter, and changed my motor and transmission oil. I'm thinking it's my fuel pump and/or filter so a tune-up is next on the list but I'm another statistic in this economy right now. I also have a problem with my EVAP line and, in my uneducated and wild guess, it could be that coming back to bite me in the butt.
Is there something else that I'm missing or overlooking? Am I wrong in those assumptions?
I had something similar happen to a Chevy Venture. It was actually a dirty sensor that cause the problem and a not-so-good air filter. ONce it was cleaned, the car ran like a dream for $130 US.
I hope it's nothing serious. Get it in to a mechanic and get a diagnosis done. You'll feel better about it.
