What is the difference between a Saginaw and a Muncie transmission?
I am looking to put together a project car for drag racing. I have a small block that makes about 467 horses and weighs about 3100 lbs. so its not all that powerful. It is built tough with a dana 60 rear and has 5:38 gears. It was a stick car before I bought it and I put a powerglide in it. Now I am kicking around the idea about putting a stick back in it.
What I don't know is what kind of tranny to put in it. I want something tough, but don't have the budget for a Liberty, Lenco, or Jericho tranny.
I have seen the Saginaw transmissions can be bought cheaper than the muncie's but don't know what the difference is.
Would you reccomend either of the two for my application or should I start checking into richmonds?
the muncie is the stronger of the two trans but both are diffacult to get parts and not able to handle lots of speed shifting and tourque at limit with with ls 7 and different ratios not easy to get richmond is very good and ratios easy to get lenco not easy to use on street have no experence with others my camero 502 has richmond 6 sp high boy has auto stick 7r4 lock up if car is only for drag raceing you should talk to trans shop that build custom trans
